My Duties (Not Cooking or Dead Guy), Applying What We Just Learned, and Miracles

Elder Gonzalez
Mom’s asked what are my duties. My duties are cooking duty and dead guy duty. Okay, that was a Nacho Libre joke. In the office, I buy plane tickets. I’m going to be here 6 months, so, yah, I’m going to buy my own tickets. I’ll have to make sure I buy myself a first class ticket. JK. It might make it easier to arrange when you guys come down here. Another job I have is I record all of the baptisms. The missionaries send me the baptismal paperwork, and I put it in the system. I also work with the visas. I’m learning to be organized and on top of everything.

My birthday was super lit! Actually birthdays in the mission are sort of lame, but we had a great day. We had some good food and we are working with some great people.

Yesterday, Elder Gonzalez toured the mission. He’s from Uruguay, and he’s really great. We had a little meeting and a program, and Elder Gonzalez talked how to be messengers. It was really inspired.

Then, that night, we had a really great miracle. After the conference, we had to bounce, we had to leave immediately. We went to see an investigator named Carlos. He’s 33 and has a baptismal date. We asked him if he’s still on track for his baptism. He said yes. In the subsequent lesson we taught him about keeping the Sabbath day holy. We asked him if he would do it, but when we asked if he’d be a church this Sunday, he said he’d be visiting his family. We then literally applied what Elder Gonzalez had just taught us. It was really great. And then, that night, we had a ward activity. We had invited a great Venezuelan family that is investigating the church to attend. They said that they would be there. We arranged to meet them at 6:30 on a particular street corner. The didn’t show up at 6:30. Or 7:00. Or 7:15. We were disappointed and wondered if we should just leave or not. But then they showed up at 7:45. The activity was great, and they got to know the ward members. We even had another investigator who came and we didn’t even realize it. One of the highlights of the even was a multi-lingual, recently returned missionary singing a fabulous Frank Sinatra song. Everyone loved it! We were superhyped yesterday about all of the good things happening in our area.

This morning we cleaned up our apartment really well. It is a venue that lots of missionaries use during conference, so we wanted it to be really clean.

I’ve been really getting into conference talks. In particular, Elder Abila and I have been listening to talks by Elder Uchtdorf. They are awesome.

We play a lot of games in the office. In addition to Uno, we play a card game called Monopoly Deal! It is just with cards, and it gets really intense.

Sorry if some of my letters might not sound like I’m interested in the work. On P-day I do all of the preparation and not-that-missionary things and I speak English. That comes out in my letters, so it might not sound like I’m really into the work. That is not the case at all. I’d love to stay out on my mission and keep doing the work.

Love you,

Elder Tucker
