The Devil's Cauldron
We went to the Pailon del Diablo today. Not sure how to
translate that into English but I think it means the devil's pan (it is actually cauldron). So what is
the Pailon del Diablo? It is this huge waterfall in the amazonian part of our
mission. It was so cool being there because you could just feel the power of
this waterfall.
We even got directly behind the waterfall. We got soaked but
it was a ton of fun. I hate heights though so I was a little nervous being
there. Ecuador is such a beautiful country.
Other than that this was a pretty good week. We had
interviews and zone conference this week with President. President Barlow is
the best. I really respect him. After zone conference we had a meeting with
leaders of the mission. President Barlow offered the closing prayer. It was the
most powerful prayer I have ever heard. It felt so amazing to hear my mission
president praying for me.
Something cool was that President Barlow talked about the
beatitudes. They are cooler in Spanish by the way. He explained that they were
an autobiography given by Jesus and qualities that we should strive to
cultivate.
This week had some hard moments as well. Our companionship
is not functioning as well as I would like. It is hard to please everyone in
your stewardship. And I have been wondering a lot recently over the balance
between being 100% responsible for what takes place and sitting back and
trusting in the Lord's plan. But how can I resolve the conflict between these
two ideas? I want to act rather than be acted upon but I fear that sometimes it
causes me unnecessary stress. If you have any suggestions, send them.
I am excited for this next week. One of the coolest moments
this week was that on the ride back from Pailon I had an amazing conversation
with 2 other missionaries. We talked about deep issues of the mission. Like
that question I have.
Apparently I look Venezuelan. 2 times in less than 15
minutes people thought I was Venezuelan. It was dark outside so they could not
see me very well. But it caught me so off guard. One guy even asked me to show
him my papers. I told him no. So I am from Venezuela. Todo Fino Papi.
Love y'all, I am so grateful for all that you do for me,
Elder Tucker
