Passing of Grandpa Don and Now Mission Secretary
Note: On November 18, 2018, Bryce's grandfather Don Tucker died suddenly from a stroke. Bryce responds to some of that news here.
Man that was unexpected. I just read the email about
Grandpa's passing. I am really sad right now. But I know families can be
together forever so I take comfort in that. I don't want to write too much
about Grandpa because it makes me cry. I loved him. I miss him. But I take
comfort in knowing that we will see each other again.
I am going to try to change the topic so I can tell you guys
about my week. So on Sunday I got the news that I was going to be a secretary.
It totally caught me by surprise and I was pretty disappointed. But Conner's
prophetic letter helped me out. Also I was able to talk to a former missionary
who just happened to be skyping the family we were visiting. I really look up
to that missionary and he also served as a secretary. He animated me (o sea (o sea is the Spanish term for, "in other words), he
got me excited) and I am okay with the change. The good thing is my new
companion is one of my favorite people in the whole world. Elder Abilla. We
started the mission the same day and will end the mission the same day. We are
amazing friends so I am excited for the opportunity to work with him. The
stinky thing is that I will only have one transfer left after the offices
because I will be there for 6 months. But today I heard that they will start
having service missionaries so maybe they could take some of the work load off
of me. We will see. So I will start having P-day on Saturday so don't be
surprised when I write you on Saturday.
It probably is not a good idea to be listening to Christmas
music on the church's radio. It makes me miss Grandpa more.
This week we had a lot of things fall apart which stunk. I
had a pretty bad experience with an artist this week. We have been visiting a
family and 2 of the members of the family have been preparing for baptism. We
went to their house to do the baptismal interviews and the brother, a 45 year
old artist, came in and ruined everything. He said we were pushing his mom and
sister into this and was just being a stinker. Something important for me is
Usted rather than tu. I find it rude when people use the informal form of you
(tu) with me. And that was all he did even after I asked him to stop. Right now
I really dislike stupid artists who believe in only nature and think we
missionaries are neo-colonists.
Also it poured this weekend for the first time in Ambato.
But I am going to be honest. This next transfer is going to
rock.
Shout out to Conner. A clutch letter.
I will send more photos on Saturday. Here is a photo with my
pana de cada día. This is the guy who cuts my hair. He is a super cool
Venezuelan. Tonight I will take more photos of my favorite people.
Sorry my English sucks. It will get better. A benefit of
being a secretary is that I will go to President's house for Thanksgiving. I am
excited for that.
I think God is just trying to instill in me the lesson that
it does not matter where one serves, but how one serves.
Love y'all, I miss Grandpa but am excited to see him again
one day,
Elder Tucker
