Painting the Streets and Rolling Them Rs!
Great Week.
Just want to say I am so glad that the mission is not 2
years of painting streets. Painting streets might be one of the most boring things
in the world. And also very physically taxing.
So I painted some streets this Saturday. We had a stake
service activity painting the medians or islands in major streets with yellow
pain on the edges. It was the worst. Okay it really was not that bad but
definitely not as rewarding as missionary work. I did not change that medians
life. 10 years from now it will be back where it was before: a crappy strip of
grass in a street. What really stunk was that the odors of the paint were
really strong and they kinda took me out of action Saturday and Sunday. Like I
worked normal and everything but my mind was not in the game. It stunk but now
I appreciate being 100%.
I am just so glad I am a missionary because I wake up every
day excited to work. My Grandfather said we should try to find a job where we
would want to pay the company to work. And that is totally what the mission is.
I am paying for this. And I love it so much. The days fly and Ecuador is the
best. Best people, best food (except for pig head), and the worst sun. Not
everything can be perfect.
I love my companion Elder Alanoca so much. He reminds me so
much of my dad. There have been two people in my mission who have reminded me
of my dad. A big reason is that they were both short people who acted tall.
They were short but commanded a presence. That is Elder Alanoca. Also he
really likes speakers and he shares a lot of mannerisms with my dad. They are
both very precise people who are good at making split second decisions. Also
there was a time when my Dad was playing a lot of chess and he told me that he
began to see chess situations wherever he went. Elder Alanoca was the same with
painting the street. He told me now when he sees a median he really wants to
paint it. IDK just sharing some thoughts.
So a huge miracle that happened this week is I can finally
roll my R's. To those who do not speak spanish it might not seem like a big
deal but I have been working and praying for this for a year and I am so glad I
can finally do it. God plans when he blesses us and typically in our lowest
moments we have a huge blessing just around the corner.
So the World Cup is this week. Not as huge here as I thought
it would be. I mean they are talking about it all the time but I wanted to see
people watching it in the streets. I hear about it a lot but I am trying to
stay focused. (How did Argentina tie Iceland?) That was a rhetorical
question.
I think I have developed an addiction to conference talks. I
love listening and studying them so much.
Another fantastic week. Loving life here.
Elder Tucker
