Santo Domingo!
I am in Santo Domingo! Holy cow it is humid. Sweating all
the time has become a part of life for me. But it is really awesome here as
well.
I am training a missionary from Huancayo, Peru. His name is
Elder Astuñaupa. He is a convert of 1 year and 5 months and the only member in
his family. And he is really awesome. He is a hard worker and serves others
really well.
It is a bit stressful being a trainer because you are the
example in everything. Your trainee is going to follow you in everything. I
just hope I am a good enough trainer.
But wow Santo Domingo is different from Quito. So humid
here. I was dying in the chapel during sacrament meeting this Sunday. What
stinks is it is hotter inside houses than outside here. So when we get like a
hot soup and I sweat into the soup. But it is not that bad. I am already
getting used to being here.
Something that has made it stressful is opening a sector.
That means Elder Astñaupa and I both got to Las Islas at 8:00 Thursday without
knowing anything. We left our house that night to buy eggs and tried to enter
into the wrong house. We just had to laugh about it. But by now we know the
sector much better and things are going smoothly now.
One of my big suitcases broke. Like the wheels are shredded.
So I had to drag it around Quito for a bit. It actually was not as awful as you
would think dragging the bag around.
To me the mission is 2 years of summer. There isn't homework
or group projects. Kids are playing in the street all the time and it is chill
here. And with the humidity in Santo Domingo I really feel like I am back home
in the summer. I love it. Also here there are a lot more plants and trees and
less paved roads. I feel even more like a missionary here walking on dirt roads
with my companion.
So I am excited training and love it here in Santo Domingo.
