Pretty Great Week
This was another great week in the mission. Elder Lambson is entering his last week of the mission and it is pretty sad. He really does not talk a lot about going home. We just work hard. I am really sad that he is going because we have had so much fun these last 3 months. I do not know how he feels about going home but I think he is okay with it. Elder Lambson is a really easy going guy. But I am glad that I get to stay because we have so many fantastic people in this sector. Hearing people say goodbye makes me really sad so that is one thing I am not excited for. Not sure why because I got emergency transferred and have not said goodbye to anyone but it still makes me feel sad.
This week was also great because we had a lot of lessons with investigators and a lot of them attended church. Like a lot. It worked out really well because this was the best Sunday meeting I have had in my mission. All three talks were about the Book of Mormon. The last talk was especially good. It was given by a Venezuelan. Venezuelans rock because they have been through some hard times so their testimonies are very strong. It just rocked so much to see a Sunday in which we had a lot of investigators and where the message was relevant to them.
We have started teaching these old people. The husband is 85 and the wife is 90. And the only word I can use to describe them is dope, I am sorry I know that is slang but it perfectly encapsulates them. We invited the wife to read the Book of Mormon and she said she wanted to but every time she sits down to do something she falls asleep, so she can't do anything. But they are hilarious and really cool. We have to teach slowly for them to understand. They always ask us to bless their health in the prayer and then they say ¨but not that well because we know we should be dead already.¨ Old people are cool.
This week was pretty cold. It makes getting out of bed difficult because it is so cold. And it rained a lot. Which exacerbated the problem. But it is better than heat so I am not complaining.
Side note: I think I have forgotten some English words. Elder Lambson and I just talk in English but we often have words on the tips of our tongues and cannot remember them. So have the kindness and do not judge if my prose is poor (that is a word I still remember).
There is nothing more satisfying now than working. In my training I was so excited for P-day because I could do fun stuff and relax. But now I am always just itching to go work. For example, we are visiting this 18 year-old guy and last Monday we taught him what the Book of Mormon was. When we gave him a copy, the excitement on his face just made my day. That is why I am here in Ecuador. It was just an amazing moment.
Something ridiculous people say here is they claim that people from Britain speak a purer form of English. They say it is easier to understand people from Britain than people from the US. What a bunch of malarkey! To get them back I have started saying how much I love hearing Spaniards talk because of how clearly and purely they speak. Their reaction is always the funniest thing because they think that is so ridiculous.
Also Spanish has two names for its own language, Español and Castellano, and every person has a different idea as to what is Español and what is Castellano. Very confusing and I love bringing it up because they always get in huge arguments about the difference.
These last two paragraphs are mostly about this one family that lives a block from us who we eat lunch with every Sunday. We are always messing with each other and so I love saying stuff that makes them mad. I do not say that stuff to people who I am not already close with.
Another great week in the mission. Love it here. I definitely feel like I am accustomed to Ecuador now. I do not really have any stress now. It rocks.
Love,
Elder Tucker
