New Years!
New Years is today in Ecuador. It is huge here, even bigger than Christmas. They have some really cool traditions for New Years. Definitely the coolest is they put a candle in like a bag structure and then send it up the sky. Basically that thing they do in Tangled. But it rained hard so no one could actually do it which stunk. But that also meant there were less drunk people out today which rocked.
This was definitely the coldest week I have experienced in Ecuador. There was a fair bit of snow today on the mountains which was really cool because we are on the equator.
Other than that not a lot this week. A lot of people were out of town this week which stunk but that means this week will be a lot better.
There are some awesome people here in Ecuador. Some of my favorites are Familia Jativa, who we eat lunch with every Sunday. We just have such funny and interesting conversations about everything. For example, corruption here is just seen as a way of life. To people in South America, if you are not exploiting the system, you are not doing it right. They know it is wrong but it seems impossible to fix the problem. Just really interesting seeing how deep problems here can run.
I made some recordings for y'all but I do not like how I sound. My companion has corrupted me into speaking like I am from LA, so I don't even recognize my voice. I will probably make another one this week that sounds better and try to send it to you over the Internet. Other than that nothing big this week.
Still getting along very well with Elder Lambson, still loving life out here. It is funny that now I have a hard time thinking about what things I miss about home. Of course my family but not a lot else. I just love Ecuador and the mission.
Love you,
Elder Tucker
